I’m a sonograph, trained at Gynækologiske klinik/Skanningsklinik.dk in Hvidovre.

I’m originally educated as a pedagogue, and changed directions in 2006, and have since then worked with gynaecology and obstetrics scans.

I was nuchal translucence certified in 2010 and have been ongoing with my national and international courses and Congress in both obstetrics and gynaecology. I daily work with both abdominal and vaginal scans.

I’m very happy when it comes to performing scans, it is always special to be able to show future parents, siblings and grandparents the unborn child. From showing them the small heartbeat to a peacefully sleeping 30-week-old fetus with popping soft cheeks.

To be able to do scans, does not only require a technical knowledge and practical skills but also be able to show empathy and being able to communicate what is shown on the screen. Here my pedagogue education has its major benefit, and I often get a positive feedback for the information from the parents during the scan.

Privately, I’m married to Dr. Tri and we have 5 children.

Gender scan

In our Copenhagen department, it is possible to drop in. But it is also possible to book an appointment so that we know that you are coming and that your waiting time is shortened as much as possible.

The scan is done on the surface of the abdomen.

Gender scan is performed from 14+0 weeks.

What can you expect to see

You will get a sense of safety and certainty, and you will be informed if the baby is a boy or a girl.

If we are unable to see it the first time, then we will book you a new appointment completely free of charge, and will continue to do so, until you are informed of the gender.

We have a rescan frequency of 1-5%, depending on how far ahead you are in the pregnancy (the further you are then 14 weeks, the easier it is to see the gender), the position of the fetus (supine position is the best), your weight (the thinner you are, the easier it is to see the gender, and it gives us a clearer image).

A lot of people asks us if there is a 100% certainty after we have informed the parents of the gender. There is not, but we have statistically accuracy of 99.83%.

In 2014, we performed 3000 gender scans, and only 5 cases were errors, which statistically is 0.17%.

The precision in gender determination is determined according to the following criteria:

The length of the pregnancy, the position of the fetus, the position of the umbilical cord and your weight.

The sonograph’s/nurse’s experience has a big role to play, but the error assessments are typically seen in those who have performed under 500 scans.

We estimate all our mistakes in gender determination and learn from them to avoid making the same mistake again. In three cases we had to accept that we could have done better, and in two cases we had to accept that the criteria are met to determine the gender and that we could not have done it any better.

Nobody is perfect, but if you do not accept the mistakes, then we do not learn anything from them, and we cannot become better.

Are you overweight (BMI above 32) and especially if it has been tricky to scan at the nuchal translucency scan, we recommend you wait with booking an appointment until you are 15 full weeks. Other than that, it is not a problem to book an appointment after 14 full weeks. With experience, better machines and better technology we can do more and can do it with a better precision.

What else do you get, besides knowing if you are having a boy or a girl?

you can see your child moving, with all four extremities, the child is holding its head, moving its arm down to the stomach and kicking with its legs.

The child’s heart is beating and your heart is beating. The sound of life is confirmed by the small heart that beats again and again for the 100 years…

You and those who do it every day, are just fascinated by the little life and energy that is genetically programmed into the little body, through several thousands of years of life’s development.

Now it is your child that you can see! Now you can say my boy, my girl and maybe already have a name for him, or her instead of “it”.

Cohesion is growing, and you have your husband and family with you, and you will now feel that you have many things in common for the years to come.

After the scan, you will be given a folder, for your 2D B/W pictures, and a mail with all the 2D images, and maybe a clip of the heartbeat, without sound.

You will also be given a report, that who you the measurements of the boy’s/girl’s heaad, stomach, thighbone and an estimation of the child’s weight.

We perform 3D/4D/HD live scan, if it possible and the fetus lies so that the body is covered with amniotic fluid in front of it, and that there not an arm, leg or umbilical cord in front of the body, and the head is not to deep down the pelvis.

It is possible to buy pictures in black/white or in colours for 20 kr. per piece.

Small 3D/4D scan

At our Copenhagen department, it is possible to just drop in, on this type of scan. But we recommend you book an appointment for this type of scan, so that we have a better chance of planning and avoid a long waiting line for you.

In our Hvidovre department, there is no drop in, and you must book an appointment prior to arrival.

For a 3D/4D scan, it takes approx. 30 minutes, and is best done between 25-30 weeks (+/-2 weeks) in this package you will get:

  • Around 20-25 minutes of scan (30 minutes are set for the whole scan, including reports, printing pictures etc.).
  • An examination of the baby’s position, the location of the placenta and the determination of gender from 14 full weeks if this is something that is wished for.
  • Measurements of the head, stomach and thighbone.
  • A report with the measurements and weight of the fetus, (fetus length cannot be measured).
  • An e-mail with all the 2D/3D/HD live pictures and small 4D video clips of the baby’s movements (there is no sound in these clips).
  • 4 B/W pictures on regular ultrasound paper (cannot be laminated).
  • 4 coloured printed pictures on ages/wear resistant paper.
  • Thre is not included a free rescan in this package. But if you wish so, then please consider the big 3D/4D/HD live scan for 1100 kr. for 40-45 minutes.
  • A 3D/4D scan can be done during the whole pregnancy, but we do recommend it to be done between 26-30 weeks (+/-2 weeks). The best pictures are when the scan is performed between 26+-30+ weeks. Because the baby at the time has much more character and fat on the body, and there is a lot of amniotic fluid.
  • A 3D scan is an image created with ultrasound, which is done on the surface of the abdomen, with the help of this technology it is possible to get a realistic image of the baby. The image shows clear features of the baby, with facial expressions. If one is lucky it is sometimes possible to get clear images of the hands and feet. If possible, then we can locate the placenta and do a determination of the gender from 14 full weeks. The purpose is to come home with pictures of the little new one for the whole family and friends to share. We will send pictures and clips by mail, so that you can quickly upload them on social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.
To be able to get a good picture of the baby’s face, there need to be certain criteria before it is possible. The baby must turn its head upwards, and there must be a certain amount of amniotic fluid in front of the face. If there is not enough amniotic fluid in front of the face the pictures will become unclear.
If the placenta is in front of the baby’s face, then the front wall of the uterus can also have an influence on the quality of the pictures. Overweight also has an influence on the results.

We cannot wait to scan you, do take your family and friends with you!

Safety, certainty, cohesion is our goal.

Big 3D/4D/HD live scan

At Lille Liv we offer 3D/4D/HD live scan, it’s only a few clinics that offer and have the HD live technology. This is a new dimension of ultrasound that gives a better depth, sharper images and reveals a more refined detail than ever before. The scan is based on a new technology where it simulates a movable light source, which shines on the child from every angle. The images will seem more natural and realistic than a common 3D/4D scan and give the couple a better understanding of what is seen on the screen.

Lilleliv.dk offers 3D/4D/HD live scan to the lowest market price.

A 3D/4D/HD live scan is best between 26-30 weeks of pregnancy-

  • Around 30 minutes of a scan, with the opportunity for a free rescan if it isn’t possible the first time around. (There set approx. 40 minutes for it all, including a report, photo printing, completion of the DVD etc.)
  • An examination baby’s position, the location of the placenta and determination of gender after 14 full weeks, if this is something that is wished for.
  • Measurements of the head, stomach and thighbone.
  • A report of the measurements and weight of the fetus (fetus length cannot be measured).
  • An e-mail with all the 2D/3D/Hd live images and if possible small 4D video lips of the baby’s movements (there is no sound on these clips).
  • A DVD with the whole session recorded on DVD, including sound with the sonograph/doctor who is speaking.
  • 4 B/W pictures on regular ultrasound paper (Cannot be laminated).
  • 4 coloured printed pictures.

It is possible to do a 3D/4D scan throughout of the whole pregnancy, but we do recommend it to be done between 24-30 weeks of pregnancy. The best results are done between 26-30 weeks of pregnancy, due to the child’s natural weight gain, more personal features and the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding it. A 3D scan is an image created with an ultrasound done on the surface of the abdomen. With this kind of technology, it is possible to clearly see the child’s facial features and expressions. Sometimes if one is lucky it is possible to get a picture of the child’s hand’s and feet’s. By taking more pictures by the second, it is possible to make small video sequences of the child, which is called 4D.

The purpose is to come home with pictures of the little new one for the whole family and friends to share. We will send pictures and clips by mail, so that you quickly can upload them on social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.

If the placenta is located on the front wall, then one should have this type of scan done around 28 weeks.

At approx. 5% of cases, it is not possible to get a good picture on the first try, and we provide a photo guarantee. If it is not possible to get a picture of the baby’s face either from the front or the side then we will book you a new appointment free of charge. It’s the sonographer who decide if a new scan can be offered.

We are looking forward to scanning you, do take your family and friends with you!

Safety, certainty and cohesion is our goal.

NB: It is required to book an appointment for the big 3D/4D/HD live scan.

Dr. Tri Huu Nguyen

Dr. Tri Huu Nguyen is educated from Copenhagen University as Cand. med. in 1991 with a PhD in 2000, which concerned the precision of determination of the date of the term on more than 20.000 fetus’s, with a special recognition in 2005.

With his ultrasound education from Herlev University Hospital from 1995-2000, Dr Tri is one of the few gynaecologists who has a solid and international recognition in ultrasound, besides gynaecologist/obstetrics specialist education.

I have always had a great interest in ultrasounds in general. During my education, especially in gynaecology and fetus scans. In my opinion, the ultrasound is cheap and quite efficient technology, when used correctly it can give a quick and safe diagnosis.

I have held ultrasound courses and trained many Danish/Scandinavian sonograph’s in different types of gynaecology/obstetric scans at Holbæk Sygehus, with the responsibility of ultrasounds in general, and especially around ultrasound screenings of fetus’s (nuchal translucency scan and malformation scan).

I started and organized an obstetric screening program in Vestsjællands Amt in 2005, and educated a majority of the sonograph’s in doing scans under a very strict requirement for quality control.

I have established my own clinic since 2007 on Gammel Køge Landevej 272, in Hvidovre, which consists of a gynaecological clinic and a scan clinic. The scan clinic is privately based. The clinic is primarily doing pregnancy scans and other types of scans such as stomach/gut scans, gynaecological scans and breast scans are also offered.

I bought “Lille Københavner” the 1/1-2014, where exclusively offers obstetric scans on a private basis.

2D scan

A 2D scan is called an early scan/safety scan/growth scan.

It is done from 5 weeks up until birth.

It is possible to just drop in. But we recommend to prebook an appointment.

The scan is done vaginally or transabdominal.

After 7 full weeks, it is possible to have the scan done on the abdomen.

What can I expect to see:

  • From 5-6 weeks: an intrauterine gestation sack, which is a small dark area, a few millimetres, which is the facility for a pregnancy. We also examine the ovaries to exclude cyst formations and possibly pregnancy outside of the womb.
  • From, 6 weeks: the intrauterine gestation sack (the fetus facility) is getting bigger, over 10 mm. It is possible to see a small round structure (yolk) in the gestation sack. We can also start to see a small blinking heart, and from mid 6+ weeks, it is possible to see the heartbeat.
  • We can also see if there is more than one fetus. From 7 weeks it is possible to measure the length of the fetus (CRL) and give an estimation of the date of term (+/-4-5 days if precision).

What you get home:

  • In most cases, you get certainty, safety and possibly a date of the term after the scan.
  • It might be the first time you see the heart is beating. It is a life-affirming experience that you will never forget.
  • If you have your husband, family with you, then you will experience a feeling of cohesion for the small life that you will get to know in years to come.
  • You will get a few pictures of the early pregnancy, a report of the scan with the length of the pregnancy, a date of the term, the length of the fetus (CRL), by mail you will receive 2D pictures and possibly small video clips of the fetus heartbeat (without sound).
  • We do 3D/4D/HD live scan if it possible. The fetus has to lie with amniotic fluid in front of its body, and there has to be no, umbilical cord, placenta or uterine wall in front of the fetus.

Bad news

By most of the scans, we find a fetus in well-being.

Unfortunately, we sometimes see that it is not always the case. It is important to know that in these situations we can help you with a correct diagnosis of Dr Tri Huu Nguyen, a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics PhD.

In these cases, you will either be referred to the gynaecological clinic in Hvidovre for further diagnosis, treatment or be sent directly to the hospital.
